Working Out Through Getting Zen: 5 Ways to Make Every Day Better

We understand, life gets busy. The key to maintaining a day-to-day that’s not just full—but also fulfilling—is keeping your health and happiness in check. While juggling it all, often for everyone else, you also deserve to feel well, eat great food and have plenty of time for rest and relaxation. So, let’s make it happen! Here are our 5 top tips for re-prioritizing your wellbeing.

 

Get moving—your way!

Scheduling daily movement into your schedule can have a profound impact on your physical and mental foundation. Whether it be walking, running, hiking, pilates or yoga, start a movement practice that is not only great for your body, but also brings you joy. Start your morning with five minutes of stretching to your favorite song or bring a friend to a weekend yoga class (and grab a latte afterward!). Work comfortably.

Your workday doesn’t have to be full of neck pain, backaches and hours of sitting. It’s time to make a change! Set yourself up for success with an ergonomic workstation. Be conscious of any vulnerable areas of your body and be extra cautious when stretching, doing cardio or even just lifting things. Cook up a veggie omelet with toast or make a delicious fruit smoothie with almond butter for a nourishing plant-based protein. 

 

As for lunch, it’s all about meal prep! Put the “pre” in “prepare” by making large batches during the weekend; when the subject of your Monday-to-Friday lunch break arises, you’ll already have it handled. Try roasting a large sheet pan of veggies in the oven, hard-boiling some eggs or preparing veggie-rich salads—all of which can be pre-packed a few days in advance—so you can simply grab and go.

 

Have fun with dinner! Select a few recipes at the beginning of the week—tried-and-true favorites or others that look like a delicious challenge—and do a large grocery shop for all the ingredients. (When you’ve got them on hand you won’t be so quick to order take out!) Food you look forward to eating is far more enjoyable to cook than the everyday last-minute “what for dinner?” dilemma. Turn on some great music and get creative during these final hours of your day. Invite friends or family over to enjoy the meal with you for extra smiles—and impress them with your skills!

 

Find your zen.

The key to it all? Rest and relaxation. Creating relaxing moments—be they big or small—will feed your soul and give you the energy you need to handle everything life throws your way. Wake up 30 minutes early to sip your coffee slowly and do a meditation; plan a weekend getaway to look forward to; take an art class to express yourself creatively. Relaxation looks different to everyone, so think about what you need in order to let go a bit and have some fun (and then make sure it’s on your calendar!).
